Membership
Membership in this Sorority shall be restricted to students of superior scholarship, personality and character, and faculty members and alumnae of recognized schools, colleges or universities. Persons who have demonstrated their interest in and service to such institutions, meriting recognition by the International Board of Governors of this Sorority, may be admitted to membership in recognition of such interest and service.
A member shall be considered a member-at-large when that member is in good standing, has been issued a change of membership status form and retains International membership by paying International dues.
The member is entitled to attend district meetings, the international conventions, and to receive the official mailings from the International Secretary, including the NOTEBOOK. She may also attend chapter meetings.
There are also members who are Life Members. These members paid a one-time special due that would cover their dues as long as they were members of Alpha Iota. Members of this classification may still be active in an alumnae chapter or they may be members-at-large. This classification is no longer granted.
A member shall be considered honorary when that person is recognized for her professional achievement in the community. This person must be approved by the chapter and by the International Board of Governors before she can be invited to become a member. A certificate of honorary membership shall be issued by the International Board of Governors.

A Scholarship Award was established in the 1930’s to assist those attending college. Alpha Iota Sorority offers a $2,000.00 scholarship to any member and a $1,000.00 scholarship to any mother, daughter, step-daughter, granddaughter or step-granddaughter of a member meeting specified qualifications. The scholarship will be given only in a convention year.
As mentioned in the Top Ten #10, our dues are affordable! There is a one time initiation fee, annual international, district and local dues.
Each chapter assigns their own meetings. Chapters are assigned to specific districts. Districts meetings are held annually. An International Convention is held biennially in odd number years, with the districts rotating as hostesses.
There are two official jewelry pins; one has pearls with a gemstone in the center and the other is plain. Only official members may order jewelry through the International Secretary.
The official “logo” of the Sorority is the pin badge located at the top of our homepage. The other one is our crest also located on our homepage
